About

This blog documents the work of MSc Building & Urban Design in Development students in the Development Planning Unit of University College London (UCL). More specifically, it displays a snapshot of each student’s work in the ‘Individual Design Response’ phase of the Urban Intervention Studio. This two-week phase is the culmination of a rigorous and fast-paced sequence of research, analysis and design beginning in early October 2010. The assigned case is one of ‘Contested Urbanism and Vertical Densities’ in Dharavi, Mumbai, India.

After three months of group work to sift though this complex case, the final stage allows each individual to pursue their own design intervention that emerges from previously developed collective principles and guidelines.  Each post contains an abstract text and 1-2 images of a student’s work, giving a limited public preview of the full review and exhibition to be held at UCL on Friday, 28 January 2011.
